GERMANY - BioNTech announced the closure of three of its production plants in Germany, a decision related to the low utilization of its industrial capacity and the reduction in demand for messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines used against Covid-19.
The German company faces a different scenario than that
experienced during the first years of the pandemic, when the need for vaccines
led to a significant expansion of production and installed capacity.
With the decrease in demand, BioNTech seeks to adjust its
operations and reduce infrastructure that is no longer necessary to maintain
its production levels.
The closures are part of a reorganization of its facilities
in Germany, in a context where the company has focused some of its resources on
the development of new treatments and vaccines based on mRNA technology.
