The Venezuelan government formally notified the United
Nations (UN) of its decision to withdraw from the International Criminal Court
(ICC).
The move comes amid diplomatic tensions following recent
statements by US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio
regarding the situation in Venezuela.
To date, Venezuelan authorities have not specified the scope
of the decision or the timeline for the withdrawal to take effect. According to
the Rome Statute, a state's withdrawal from the ICC is subject to a procedure
established in that international treaty.
