US President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation with the newly appointed Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Andy Burnham, in which both leaders addressed issues considered priorities for the bilateral relationship, including strengthening trade, defense cooperation, and various strategic matters related to energy security.
During the call, the leaders exchanged views on the
exploitation of oil resources in the North Sea, a key region for British and
European energy supply, as well as on actions aimed at ensuring the security of
international shipping lanes.
One of the key issues discussed was the demining of the Strait
of Hormuz, a maritime passage of strategic importance for the global trade of
hydrocarbons. They agreed on the need to keep shipping lanes open and secure to
avoid disruptions to the international oil supply.
At the end of the conversation, Trump expressed his support
for the new head of the British government and assured that the United States
would maintain close collaboration with the United Kingdom on issues of common
interest. "We will be there to help," the US president stated, referring
to his administration's willingness to work in coordination with the new
government.
Both leaders also expressed their interest in strengthening
relations between their countries and agreed to hold an in-person meeting soon
to deepen dialogue and advance agreements related to trade, security, defense,
and other issues on the bilateral agenda.
