New federal regulations in the United States require
universities to demonstrate that their academic programs improve the economic
situation of their graduates in order to maintain access to federal financial
aid, according to an NPR report.
The measure aims to strengthen the accountability of higher
education institutions by linking public funding to the economic and employment
outcomes of students after graduation.
Universities that do not meet the established criteria could
lose access to federal financial aid programs for their students.
