President Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on New
York City’s newly elected mayor, Zohran Mamdani, following his impassioned
victory speech, calling it “a message filled with anger and socialist
rhetoric.” During his appearance on Bret Baier’s Special Report, Trump warned
that the ideas championed by Mamdani “have never worked anywhere in the world”
and that his rise to power represents “a threat to economic stability and
individual liberty” in the city.
“I heard his speech. It was angry, radical, and frankly
dangerous for the future of New York,” Trump declared. “What he’s proposing is
pure socialism, and socialism destroys everything it touches.”
On election night, Zohran Mamdani—a member of the Democratic
Party’s socialist wing—celebrated his victory with a fiery speech in which he
promised to “redistribute the city’s power and wealth to put it at the service
of the working people.” The statement was met with cheers from his supporters,
but also with concern from business and conservative sectors who see his agenda
as an extreme shift to the left.
Trump, a staunch critic of progressive movements and
so-called “democratic socialism,” asserted that the new mayor’s promises “sound
good at rallies, but they ruin economies,” recalling the collapse of similar
systems in countries like Venezuela and Cuba.
“New York used to be a symbol of success, freedom, and
opportunity. If Mamdani implements his program, what we’ll see is unemployment,
high taxes, and businesses fleeing the city,” the former president added.
During his television appearance, Trump also took the
opportunity to analyze the results of the midterm elections, in which
Republicans failed to make the expected gains in several key races. Although he
acknowledged the need to “improve the party’s strategy,” he insisted that the
movement he leads “remains the voice of hardworking Americans who reject
left-wing extremism.”
“Despite the setbacks, we remain the party of common sense,
the party that defends American values against those who want to transform
this country into something unrecognizable,” he asserted.
Zohran Mamdani and the defiant tone of his speech—in which
he mocked Trump and promised to “dismantle the power of the elites”—generated
rejection among business leaders and political analysts who fear further
polarization in the city.
