According to recent polls, former Democratic Governor of
North Carolina Roy Cooper appears well positioned to challenge incumbent
Republican Senator Thom Tillis.
However, Democrats overall face a complex Senate map in next
year's midterm elections.
With few chances of reelection, Democrats will defend
themselves in several races while Republicans seek seats that could be ripe for
a Republican victory, Newsweek noted, adding that one possible exception could
be Tillis's seat in North Carolina, where the majority of Republicans are
Republicans.
