Senate Republicans and President Donald Trump are once again
trying to pressure the House of Representatives. This time, the central issue
is cryptocurrencies.
The looming conflict, like the mega-bill saga, revolves
around the scale and speed with which congressional Republicans must fulfill
one of Trump's most famous campaign promises. In this case, the emphasis falls
on Trump's commitment to making the United States the global center of
cryptocurrency.
The Senate passed a bipartisan bill last month to boost a
specific segment of the cryptocurrency ecosystem—so-called stablecoins—but the
House GOP is now debating whether to go further. It is preparing for a
full-throttle "crypto week" to present its arguments when House
lawmakers return next Monday.
