The New York-based Court of International Trade has ruled
that President Trump lacks the authority under emergency economic legislation
to impose global tariffs after two lawsuits were filed against the
Administration:
"The issue in the two cases before the Court is whether
the International Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977 ("IEEPA")
delegates these powers to the President, providing him with the authority to
impose unlimited tariffs on products from nearly every country in the world.
The Court does not interpret the IEEPA as conferring such
unlimited authority and nullifies the challenged tariffs imposed
thereunder."
The Trump Administration is expected to appeal.
