Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) is working to preserve select
provisions of former President Joe Biden's landmark climate legislation as
Republicans seek spending cuts to fund their reconciliation package, according
to Politico.
Murkowski urged her party to take a more cautious and
thoughtful approach rather than using a "sledgehammer" to eliminate
renewable energy tax credits included in Biden's $1 trillion Inflation
Reduction Act (IRA). The 2022 law, passed without a single Republican vote, now
faces steep cuts as GOP lawmakers seek savings to support President Donald
Trump's legislative priorities, the Daily Caller reported.
Under the Republican budget bill, House Republicans seek to
slash billions in clean energy subsidies enacted during the Biden
administration, including tax credits for electric vehicles and green home
improvements such as heat pumps and energy-efficient windows and doors.
