The acting director of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)
plans to resign after disagreeing with the decision to share tax information on
undocumented immigrants with federal authorities.
Commissioner Melanie Krause will become the third IRS leader
to leave the agency since the beginning of the year. The agency has been in
turmoil as left-wing ideologues have chosen to follow their political leanings
rather than their commitment to serving as nonpartisan government employees.
On Monday, the IRS and the Department of Homeland Security
finalized an agreement that allows them to share taxpayer data with federal
immigration authorities to help locate undocumented immigrants.
According to the Washington Post, officials at the Treasury
Department, under which the IRS operates, had largely sidelined Krause recently
while pushing for immigration authorities to access private taxpayer
information, likely because they knew she would oppose the agreement.
