Embattled Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) faced
renewed calls last week to step down and allow younger, more left-leaning
leadership to take control of the party, but he doesn't appear ready to do so.
"I'm staying in my position and fighting every day, as
is our caucus, united and successful," he declared Sunday on CNN's
"State of the Union." "We are showing America how bad Trump is,
and that Republicans who support him do so at their own peril."
Senator Dick Durbin, the Senate minority whip for 44 years,
said in his retirement announcement last week that it was time to "pass
the torch." Outgoing Senator Gary Peters used the same phrase in his
February retirement message, the Daily Beast reported.
