WASHINGTON—President Donald Trump signed an executive order Tuesday requiring federal agencies to begin integrating their public services into America.gov, the new digital platform intended to become the primary gateway for citizens to access U.S. government services.
During the launch, Trump described the project as a
transformation of how Americans interact with the government and announced that
the order would instruct all federal agencies to directly incorporate their
public-facing services into America.gov as soon as possible.
The White House notes that America.gov will utilize
artificial intelligence and technology dubbed "Super Intelligence"
(SI) by the administration to allow users to ask questions in natural language,
find official information, and, progressively, complete transactions without
having to navigate multiple government websites.
Currently, the platform allows users to access information
from thousands of government websites. The administration plans to later
incorporate services such as passport renewal and Medicare enrollment, as well
as other procedures as agencies integrate into the system.
The order also mandates that Login.gov be integrated with
America.gov to facilitate user access. However, not all federal services will
be included: the directive includes exceptions for certain IRS tax services and
sensitive services related to national security.
With this measure, the Trump administration seeks to
centralize much of the digital interaction between citizens and the federal
government on a single platform, reducing the need to independently consult the
numerous websites of U.S. agencies.
