Houthi forces have reportedly seized US-made armored
vehicles abandoned by Saudi-backed government forces after securing strategic
positions on the Yemeni coast.
The Houthi forces in Yemen have reportedly obtained US-made
military equipment, including Oshkosh M-ATV armored vehicles and mine-resistant
ambush protected (MRAP) vehicles, following the withdrawal of Saudi-backed
government forces.
The capture of the equipment reportedly occurred amidst
recent fighting for strategic positions along the Red Sea coast. Among the
locations targeted are the port city of Mocha and Mayun Island, situated in an
area of critical importance for international maritime traffic.
The loss of these vehicles represents a setback for the
Saudi-backed forces, as the US equipment is designed to provide protection for
troops against attacks with explosives, mines, and small arms fire. Images
circulating on social media allegedly show Houthi fighters alongside armored
vehicles of US origin, although the exact origin, the time of the captures, and
the circumstances in which some of the equipment was abandoned require
independent confirmation.
