NEW YORK, USA – Tension gripped Yankee Stadium during the game between the Yankees and the Mets when a fan entered the field carrying a Palestinian flag, amidst the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
The man was quickly intercepted and removed from the field
by security personnel, while some of the more than 47,000 fans in attendance
responded with chants of “USA! USA! USA!” Some spectators also threw drinks at
the protester as he was escorted off the field.
The incident occurred during a particularly symbolic day for
New York, in which the Yankees paid tribute to the victims of 9/11 and members
of the 2001 team. The game ended with a 6-4 victory for New York over the Mets.
