Editorial Staff— Entrepreneur Elon Musk announced that
requests from governments and other authorities to remove, hide, or restrict
content posted on X will be visible to platform users, a move aimed at
increasing transparency regarding external interventions on the social network.
The information was shared on social media by Héctor Trejo,
who highlighted that the change would allow users to know when a government,
institution, or influential figure requests action against a post.
According to the proposal, the intention is to prevent these
types of requests from remaining completely hidden and to allow users to have
more information about decisions that affect the availability or visibility of
certain content.
The announcement once again places the relationship between
digital platforms, governments, and freedom of expression at the center of the
debate, particularly regarding who decides what content can remain visible on
the internet and under what arguments.
Trejo pointed out that, with this measure, X is positioning
itself as one of the platforms that offers the greatest visibility regarding
these types of requests. However, the claim that it is "the most
transparent social network in the world" is based on the author's own
assessment and not an independent ranking.
The initiative could represent a significant shift in how
users learn about moderation requests from authorities, by making more visible
an interaction that has traditionally occurred behind closed doors.
