Iran's oil exports have reportedly fallen to virtually zero
as a result of the renewed US naval blockade, according to an analysis cited by
the New York Post (NYP).
The assessment was made by a former senior official at the
US Treasury Department, who warns that the drastic reduction in oil revenues
could have severe repercussions for the Iranian economy.
According to his projection, the financial impact could
begin to be felt most intensely by the country's economic and political elites,
affecting the resources available to sustain the state apparatus.
The former official estimates that, if current conditions
persist, the economic consequences could contribute to increased internal
pressure on the Iranian government and eventually destabilize the regime within
two to three months.
The situation represents a new point of tension between
Washington and Tehran, given the strategic importance of hydrocarbon exports to
the Iranian economy.
