TEHRAN — The Speaker of Iran's Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, stated that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until the United States meets the demands set by Tehran.
The statement raises tensions surrounding one of the main
maritime routes for global oil and gas transport, given the strategic
importance of the strait, located between Iran and Oman.
Ghalibaf maintained that the reopening of this waterway
depends on Washington addressing the conditions established by Iranian
authorities. The stance represents a new warning amid growing tensions between
the two countries.
The Strait of Hormuz is a strategic point for international
energy trade, so any prolonged disruption of its transit could have repercussions
in oil markets and global supply chains.
The Iranian official's statements maintain uncertainty about
the duration of the closure and increase diplomatic pressure between Tehran and
Washington.
