Washington—The Trump administration's so-called "border
czar," Tom Homan, launched a scathing critique of Democrats who are
pushing to eliminate or reduce the functions of Immigration and Customs
Enforcement (ICE).
Homan questioned why his detractors want to abolish an
agency that, according to him, has played a central role in locating 151,000
unaccompanied minors and in operations against drug trafficking and sexual
exploitation.
"They want to abolish an agency that found 151,000
children. They want to abolish an agency that seized enough fentanyl to kill
every American three times over. They want to abolish an agency that is
fighting sex trafficking," Homan stated.
The official cited achievements to defend ICE's continued
existence and highlighted the agency's functions beyond simply enforcing
immigration laws.
The debate over ICE continues to be one of the main points
of political confrontation in the United States, particularly regarding border
security, deportations, and the enforcement of immigration laws.
