The Democratic Party faces a significant decline in its
public image heading into the 2026 midterm elections. According to an analysis
released by CNN, which has historically supported the Democrats, negative
perceptions of the party are considerably higher than in 2018, when the party
achieved a significant electoral victory in the midterm elections.
In April, CNN reported that only 28% of Americans had a
favorable opinion of the Democratic Party, while the organization was nearly 30
points lower in terms of net favorability. In contrast, during 2018, the
party's favorable and unfavorable ratings were roughly balanced.
The decline in the party's image presents a challenge for
the Democrats, although it does not necessarily mean an electoral defeat. CNN's
analysis indicates that approximately a quarter of Americans hold a negative
view of both parties—the so-called "double haters"—and this group
currently shows a marked inclination toward Democratic candidates in the
general election for Congress.
This situation contrasts sharply with 2018, when Democrats
entered the election with a considerably more favorable image and subsequently
won a resounding victory in the House of Representatives.
The outlook, therefore, presents a marked weakness for the
Democratic Party, primarily due to the self-proclaimed left-wing faction within
it that has announced its intentions to open borders, support the so-called
"wok culture," and, in doing so, weaken or eliminate police forces.
