US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer warned on Thursday
that the European Union's decision to impose fines totaling €890 million
(approximately $1 billion) on Google could hinder efforts to strengthen trade
relations between the two sides.
During his remarks, Greer indicated that the measure taken
by European authorities could undermine the European Union's expectations of
moving toward a smoother trade relationship with the United States.
The statements come amid ongoing dialogue between Washington
and Brussels on economic and trade issues, while differences persist regarding
the regulation of large technology companies and competition policies promoted
by the European Union.
So far, the European Commission has not issued a public
response to the US Trade Representative's comments.
