US President Donald Trump hailed a court ruling against the
Digital Equity Act, legislation passed during former President Joe Biden's
administration, as a "great victory for the American people."
In a statement, Trump asserted that the court ruling supports
his position, which he has held since last year, that the legislation was
"racist and unconstitutional." According to the president, the law
promoted diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies that, in his view,
created divisions among citizens rather than benefiting the entire population.
In his remarks, the president also criticized the previous
Democratic administration, stating that public resources were used to implement
programs that favored certain sectors of society at the expense of the principle
of equality before the law.
Trump also highlighted the work of Commerce Secretary Howard
Lutnick, whom he credited with playing a key role in challenging the
legislation. According to the president, the Commerce Department acted on his
administration's directives to challenge the constitutionality of the rule, an
effort that, he asserted, was supported by the court's decision.
Finally, the president described the ruling as a significant
victory for "common sense" and for the U.S. Constitution, arguing
that it strengthens the principle of legal equality and limits the application
of policies based on criteria of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
