The president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, publicly
questioned the influence he believes organizations linked to the Soros family
exert in various countries. In a statement, he expressed concern about the role
played by several non-governmental organizations (NGOs) funded by foundations
associated with the Soros family, suggesting they could influence public
institutions and political processes in sovereign nations.
In his statement, Bukele questioned how a family that has
not been elected through democratic processes could influence bodies such as
prosecutors' offices or even electoral processes in different countries through
organizations that present themselves as entities dedicated to philanthropic
activities and the promotion of civil rights.
The president maintained that this situation opens a debate
about the limits of the participation of private foundations and international
organizations in matters that fall exclusively under the purview of each
state's institutions. From their perspective, the intervention of private
actors with financial capacity in political or judicial matters raises
questions about national sovereignty, the independence of the justice system,
and transparency in the financing of civil organizations.
