Amid the climate of political
polarization gripping the country, various voices have come to the defense of
Chihuahua Governor Maru Campos, in the face of what they consider an offensive
driven by the federal government against political figures who do not align
with the so-called Fourth Transformation project.
The messages of support
disseminated on social media and in political circles emphasize the need for
firmness, conviction, and courage to confront—they assert—a government
apparatus that uses institutions, prosecutors' offices, and state structures
for the purposes of political pressure and persecution against opponents.
Those who support the Chihuahua
governor maintain that while Mexico faces a serious crisis of insecurity, the
expansion of drug trafficking, and violence in various regions of the country,
the government led by MORENA is concentrating its efforts on confronting and
discrediting figures critical of the ruling party.
The expressions of support also
criticize Senator Javier Corral, whom they accuse of acting politically against
the current state administration. His critics claim that the former governor
has maintained a personal and political confrontation with Maru Campos since
the 2021 election process, when she won the governorship of Chihuahua.
In this context, the disseminated
statements indicate that Corral has found support within the federal
government, which—according to his detractors—has allowed him to remain
untouched by investigations related to alleged embezzlement and misuse of
public funds during his governorship. To date, these accusations are part of
the political debate and do not constitute a final judicial ruling.
The statements also maintain that
the government is attempting to construct media narratives to distract public
opinion from national problems related to insecurity, the economy, and
governance. According to these perspectives, there is growing public discontent
with the political project of the so-called Fourth Transformation (4T), as the
anti-corruption rhetoric is seen as contradicting various controversies and
accusations that have arisen in recent years.
Amid this scenario, supporters and
political allies of Maru Campos assert that the actions taken against her are
intended to intimidate and silence those who hold critical positions toward the
federal government. They also assert that a growing number of citizens are
beginning to question the political practices and the government's use of
power.
Support for the governor continues
to grow among opposition sectors, who believe that Chihuahua has become one of
the main centers of political resistance against the advance of MORENA and its
allies at the national level.
