WASHINGTON — Federal agents seized electronic devices
belonging to former Democratic Representative Eric Swalwell of California
during an operation at San Francisco International Airport as part of an
investigation into multiple allegations of sexual misconduct against him.
Agents later searched his home in Washington, D.C.
According to a source close to the investigation, agents
executed a search warrant at the airport and seized Swalwell's electronic
devices. A day later, authorities searched his residence and collected
additional material that could be relevant to the investigation.
Swalwell, who resigned from Congress in April 2016, faces
accusations from several women alleging sexual misconduct, including sexual
assault and sending unsolicited explicit messages or photos. The former
congressman has denied the allegations.
The federal investigation is in addition to other inquiries
related to the allegations. To date, the FBI and the Department of Justice have
not publicly released details about the contents of the seized devices or any
potential evidence obtained during the search of the residence.
