Pete Hegseth ordered the renaming of a ship named after a gay rights figure

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered the Navy to take the unusual step of renaming a ship currently named after a prominent gay rights figure, according to documents and sources.

Military.com reviewed a memo from the Office of the Secretary of the Navy, the naming authority for warships, detailing plans to implement the renaming of the oil tanker USNS Harvey Milk.

A defense official confirmed that the Navy is preparing to retire the ship's current name, noting that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth directed Navy Secretary John Phelan to take this step. The official also acknowledged that the decision, made during Pride Month, was deliberate.
