Under a 2024 "immigration" agreement, a federal judge ordered the Trump administration to return the deported gang member to El Salvador

A federal judge in Maryland has ordered the Trump administration to expedite the return of a 20-year-old Venezuelan man who was deported to El Salvador.

Trump-nominated U.S. District Judge Stephanie Gallagher issued an order Wednesday alleging that the man's deportation violated a previous court agreement, Newsweek reported.

This court ruling marks the second time a judge has ordered the Trump administration to assist in the repatriation of an immigrant deported to El Salvador. This comes after authorities deported more than 200 undocumented immigrants in March, alleging they belonged to gangs.

A class-action lawsuit was filed in 2019 on behalf of immigrants who arrived in the United States as unaccompanied minors. They sued the government to have their asylum claims heard while they were still in the country, and the parties reached a settlement in 2024.
