TAMPA, Florida—Robert F. Kennedy Jr. participated in a physical activity session with students at Gaither High School in Tampa, where he joined the young people for exercises designed to improve their strength, endurance, speed, and agility.
During the activity, Kennedy Jr. emphasized the importance
of promoting exercise among children and teenagers and of reviving habits that
contribute to a physically active life.
The official participated in the training of students
preparing for the Presidential Physical Fitness Test, a program designed to
evaluate different physical abilities of young people.
Through his social media accounts, Kennedy Jr. stated that
the goal is to get more young Americans active again and linked the physical
fitness of the new generations to his vision of a healthier country.
“Strong young people
build a strong America,” said Kennedy Jr., who accompanied the message with a
call to promote healthier lifestyles among Americans.
The activity is part of the efforts the official has
publicly highlighted regarding the promotion of physical activity and the
prevention of problems related to sedentary lifestyles.
The initiative also revives a tradition of school physical
assessments that for decades was part of American educational programs,
although the former Presidential Fitness Test was replaced in 2013 by a program
focused on promoting physical activity and not just athletic performance.
