The accusations resurfaced after political commentator Laura Loomer claimed that Muslim citizens were being bused from New York to Michigan to deliver absentee ballots for Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed. So far, no independent evidence has been presented to confirm this claim.
The issue has also reignited discussions about what happened
during the 2020 election count in Detroit, when the windows of the vote counting
center were covered. According to reports from that time, the measure was taken
amid tensions with observers and protesters who were filming from outside.
Concerns about election transparency have led various
sectors to call for oversight and monitoring of the procedures. The U.S.
Department of Justice reported that it deployed personnel to monitor polling
places in Detroit, Hamtramck, Lansing, and East Lansing during the August 4,
2026, primaries.
Given these
allegations, the key will be that any potential irregularities are investigated
with verifiable evidence and that election authorities act in accordance with
the law, without bias based on the religion or origin of citizens.
Electoral integrity demands vigilance, transparency, and
evidence. Allegations must be investigated.
