US President Donald Trump expressed his full support for Jon Husted in his bid for the Ohio Senate seat, where he is set to face Democrat Sherrod Brown in a close race.
In a message of support, Trump highlighted Husted's athletic
background, describing him as an outstanding college football player and
praising his performance as a safety and the statistics that, according to the
president, defined his athletic career.
Trump also compared Husted's athletic abilities to his
potential in politics, asserting that he will be a senator capable of representing
the interests of Ohioans.
The president used the message to criticize Democrat Sherrod
Brown, who lost her Senate seat in the 2024 election to Republican Bernie
Moreno. Brown is seeking to return to the Senate in the 2026 election cycle.
“Jon Husted has my full and complete endorsement,” said
Trump, who also urged Ohio voters to go to the polls and support the Republican
candidate.
The Ohio election is part of the national battle for control
of the Senate, in a scenario where Republicans are seeking to consolidate their
electoral support ahead of the November 2026 elections.
