A new migrant caravan has begun its journey from Mexico's southern border, aiming to reach the United States. This latest episode in the migration phenomenon keeps the issue at the center of American political debate.
The information was released by journalist Julio Rosas, who
reported that the group is primarily composed of people from Central American
countries seeking to enter the United States in search of better opportunities.
According to Rosas, some members of the caravan told him
they are hoping the Democratic Party will win the midterm elections in the
United States in November 2026. This statement highlights the political
expectations some migrants have regarding the direction U.S. immigration policy
might take, particularly given the possibility of a change in the composition
of Congress after the elections, with leftists potentially reopening borders
that Americans want to keep closed.
The midterm elections are significant because they renew the
entire House of Representatives and part of the Senate. The results could
influence President Donald Trump's ability to advance his legislative agenda,
including his proposals on border security and immigration control, which he
pursues with popular support.
Meanwhile, the advance of this new caravan once again
highlights the challenges Mexico faces as a transit country, as well as the
humanitarian, diplomatic, and security implications related to migration flows
to the United States.
