WASHINGTON—The Speaker of the US House of Representatives
issued a harsh message against the Democratic Party and called on its
supporters to work to prevent the left, which he labeled “communist” and
“extreme,” from coming to power.
“It is our duty: to defeat the far left communist Democrats
so that we can defend the Constitution and preserve the greatest nation in the
history of the world,” he stated.
The declaration reflects the high level of political
confrontation prevailing in the United States, particularly between
conservative sectors and the Democratic Party.
The official presented the electoral dispute as a struggle
for the defense of the Constitution and the preservation of the principles
that, from his perspective, have sustained the United States.
The use of the term “communists” to refer to the Democrats
constitutes a political characterization that even corresponds to the coming
out of a large group of Democrats who identified themselves as American
leftists.
The statement adds to a growing rhetoric of polarization in
American politics, in which both parties have hardened their speeches ahead of
the upcoming elections.
