The United States announced $500,000 in emergency aid for
Nepal to support local relief efforts following severe floods and landslides
that have caused significant damage across the country.
The assistance will support emergency operations deployed
after torrential rains triggered floods and landslides capable of sweeping away
buildings and severely impacting community infrastructure.
Local emergency teams are working in the affected areas to
assist the population, locate missing persons, and assess the damage caused by
the natural disaster.
The U.S. contribution aims to strengthen the response
capacity of authorities and organizations involved in rescue and humanitarian
assistance efforts, particularly in communities facing the greatest
difficulties accessing basic services.
Floods and landslides represent one of the main risks during
the rainy season in Nepal, where the mountainous terrain can contribute to
landslides and flash floods.
With this allocation, Washington is supporting Nepal as
authorities continue to assess the impact of the floods and focus resources on
emergency and recovery efforts.
