WASHINGTON—US President Donald Trump and entrepreneur Elon Musk have resumed contact after their public falling out in 2015 and are currently speaking approximately once a month, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.
According to the American newspaper, the conversations
between the two focus primarily on issues related to artificial intelligence,
China, and global matters, marking a new phase of rapprochement between the
president and the tech magnate.
The relationship between Trump and Musk had publicly
deteriorated during 2015 after the entrepreneur resigned from his position
within the administration and the two exchanged sharp criticisms. The dispute
even involved Trump threatening to cancel government contracts linked to Musk's
companies.
However, efforts to rebuild the relationship began in 2016.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Vice President JD Vance, Chief of Staff
Susie Wiles, and other individuals close to both men played a role in the
rapprochement.
The reestablishment of contacts also has a political
dimension. Musk abandoned his plans to create a new political party and has
once again endorsed the Republican Party ahead of the November midterm
elections. According to a report cited by The Wall Street Journal, the
entrepreneur plans to allocate at least $100 million to a campaign to help
Republicans retain control of Congress.
