WASHINGTON—On her last day as White House press secretary
during the Donald Trump administration, Karoline Leavitt issued a stark warning
about what she described as the rise of an increasingly radical left in the
United States.
Leavitt argued that the country faces an “existential
threat” posed, in her words, by a Democratic Party that she considers
increasingly extremist and that, she asserted, seeks to jeopardize the values
that have characterized the United States.
“Our country faces an existential threat from an
increasingly extremist Democratic Party that seeks to destroy everything great
about America,” the spokeswoman declared.
In her remarks, Leavitt also referred to the concept of an
“Islamic communist left,” a term she uses to describe, from her perspective,
some of the political currents she considers a threat to the country.
Leavitt's remarks mark the end of his tenure as White House
press secretary, a position from which he became one of the Trump
administration's leading public voices and a key figure in its political
communication strategy.
His words have garnered attention due to their warning tone
and his characterization of the Democratic Party as a threat to the political
and social future of the United States.
