Catalonia – In an unbelievable case, heavily criticized on
social media, a resident of Mataró was fined €1,700 after planting five trees
and repairing two benches on Carrer del Cós, actions he carried out on his own
initiative.
According to reports, the resident had requested the City
Council's intervention to improve the condition of the road for seven years.
Faced with no response, he decided to undertake the work himself, acquiring the
necessary materials.
Following the intervention, the City Council imposed the
fine, considering that the work and modifications to the public space were
carried out without the corresponding authorization.
The case has sparked debate regarding the limits of citizen
participation in the maintenance of public spaces and the administrative
procedures that regulate this type of action.
