During a press conference, U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Markwayne Mullin firmly addressed questions related to Greg Bovino, making it clear that he has no personal or professional relationship with him.
When questioned about the official and his possible
connection to certain decisions or actions within the realm of national
security, Mullin responded emphatically, stating that he has never had any
contact with Bovino and is completely unaware of his background or involvement
in the matters about which he was being asked.
"I've never met that guy. He's irrelevant to me. I
don't know who he is," the Secretary stated, distancing himself from any
speculation that might establish a connection between the two.
The statements drew attention due to the political and media
context in which they were made, especially since Bovino's name has recently
surfaced in various discussions related to border security and immigration
policy. However, Mullin made it clear that he does not consider the official
someone with whom he has had any interaction, nor a relevant figure within his
direct responsibilities.
The DHS head's response was interpreted by some observers as
an attempt to dispel any perception of coordination or closeness between the
two, while others saw it simply as a clarification in response to questions
seeking to establish nonexistent links.
