Republican Congressman Asks Justice Department to Investigate Organizations Linked to George Soros

Representative Buddy Carter, a Republican lawmaker from Georgia, has formally requested that the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) launch a comprehensive investigation into organizations funded by billionaire George Soros. The request stems from concerns about the groups' potential involvement in politically motivated acts of violence, according to a report released Thursday.

In a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi, Carter urged federal authorities to evaluate the activities of the Open Society Foundations and other Soros-backed organizations to determine whether any of them may be violating federal laws related to domestic terrorism, the financing of violence, or the promotion of illegal activities targeting U.S. citizens for political or ideological reasons.

The lawmaker argued that, given Soros's political and economic influence, as well as the international reach of his so-called philanthropic organizations, it is imperative to determine whether resources are being misused to promote instability or political confrontation within the country. Carter added that transparency and accountability are essential to "preserving public confidence in democratic institutions."

To date, neither the Open Society Foundations nor representatives of George Soros have issued public comments regarding the congressman's request. The Department of Justice has also not confirmed whether it plans to initiate the requested investigation.
