Brussels, Belgium – NATO member countries have purchased weapons from the United States worth more than $2 billion, according to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
The leader noted that this acquisition is part of joint
efforts to strengthen the bloc's defense capabilities and support Ukraine amid
its ongoing conflict with Russia.
“NATO is actively working on this; the United States has
already sent Ukraine supplies worth the first $2 billion,” Rutte said during a
press conference.
According to the Secretary General, the resources include
military equipment, defense systems, and munitions intended both to strengthen
European allies and to directly assist the Ukrainian army.
Rutte emphasized that this investment reflects the member
states' collective commitment to Euro-Atlantic security, as well as NATO's
determination to maintain its sustained support for Kyiv in the face of Russian
aggression.
The measure is part of the alliance's strategies to
strengthen its deterrent and rapid response capabilities, in addition to
ensuring that allies have the necessary resources in the current context of
geopolitical tension.
