Secretary of State Marco Rubio and CBS anchor Margaret
Brennan disagreed over whether US intelligence had confirmed that Iran's
Supreme Leader ordered the development of a nuclear weapon. Rubio dismissed
Brennan's question as "irrelevant."
On Sunday's "Face the Nation," Brennan asked Rubio
if the United States had "intelligence that indicated the Supreme Leader
had ordered the development of uranium as a weapon." Rubio, who also
serves as National Security Advisor, responded firmly, stating that the Supreme
Leader's order was irrelevant, as the regime was already seeking a nuclear
weapon.
"That's irrelevant. I see that question constantly in
the media. It's an irrelevant question. They have everything they need to build
a weapon," Rubio said.
The CBS anchor argued that the official weapons development
order was the "key point" in US intelligence assessments. Rubio
disagreed, stating that this was not the case and that he understood the issue
"better" than Brennan.
