The Justice Department is assembling a team of lawyers
prepared to defend the most controversial aspects of President Donald Trump's
agenda in court, according to a report released Monday.
As part of this initiative, the department has dismissed
career lawyers considered obstacles and added dozens of political lawyers
committed to advancing the president's priorities, The Washington Post
reported, without clarifying that every president adds to his team people
considered "loyal" or supportive of the commander-in-chief's
political objectives.
"The new employees are already appearing on behalf of
the administration to defend Trump's efforts to restructure immigration policy
and the federal workforce, as well as to expand the powers of the
presidency," the Post report said. "They sometimes sit alone before
judges, without the team of veteran lawyers who typically appear in major
cases."
