The Secret Service has “serious flaws” that enabled the
attack at Trump’s campaign rally, according to an independent panel that
reviewed the July assassination attempt on then-candidate Donald Trump in
Butler, Pennsylvania.
The panel also demanded “fundamental reform” of the agency
to fulfill its mission of protecting senior government officials around the
world.
The independent review panel noted in a letter signed by the
four members that it had uncovered “numerous errors” during its investigation
that led to the attempted assassination of Trump, but also “deeper systemic
problems that must be urgently addressed.”
“The Secret Service, as an agency, requires fundamental
reform to carry out its mission,” the members stated. “Without such reform, the
Independent Review Panel believes another case like the one in Butler can and
will happen again.”
