US President Donald Trump accused the Iranian regime of trying to raise international oil prices ahead of the US midterm elections. According to the president, Tehran is spreading information about attacks and mines in the Strait of Hormuz to create uncertainty in energy markets.
Trump stated that, despite the tensions stemming from the
conflict, the flow of oil through this strategic waterway is currently higher
than before the start of hostilities.
In his message, the president also condemned the repression
in Iran and asserted that 75,000 protesters have died in less than seven
months. He also criticized the international community and the Democratic Party
for what he considers a lack of response to the situation.
Trump called the Iranian regime "truly evil" and
reiterated his stance against the country developing or acquiring nuclear
weapons. The statements reflect the growing tension between Washington and
Tehran, in a scenario where regional security, the global oil supply and the
international controversy over the Iranian nuclear program converge.
