CALIFORNIA—California gubernatorial candidate and commentator Steve Hilton called on his supporters to organize community gatherings to collect mail-in ballots, citing concerns about potential fraud during the election.
On social media, Hilton suggested that Republicans should
“beat the Democrats at their own game” and organize gatherings, which he called
“pizza parties,” to coordinate ballot collection and delivery.
Hilton maintained that this practice is legal and questioned
why organizing such events is primarily left to unions and non-profit
organizations.
The commentator urged his supporters to get directly
involved in mail-in voting activities and to organize community efforts to
facilitate the collection and delivery of ballots in accordance with applicable
election regulations. His call comes amid a growing political dispute in the
United States surrounding mail-in voting, voter turnout, and the mechanisms
used by parties to mobilize their supporters.
Hilton presented his proposal as a voter participation
strategy and asserted that conservatives should use the same mobilization tools
traditionally employed by organizations linked to the Democratic Party.
