Putin proposes summit with Trump and Xi Jinping to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine

MOSCOW—Russian President Vladimir Putin has reportedly proposed a trilateral meeting with his US counterpart, Donald Trump, and Chinese President Xi Jinping to negotiate a solution to the war in Ukraine, which has dragged on for more than four years.

According to information published by The Wall Street Journal, the initiative seeks to reach an agreement that favors Moscow's interests. The proposal was reportedly made during a telephone conversation between Putin and Trump on October 9.

According to the report, the Kremlin has suggested holding the meeting on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, scheduled for November 18 and 19 in Shenzhen, China.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that discussions are underway regarding the possibility of a meeting, although he clarified that no decision has yet been made about whether it will take place or what topics would be discussed.

Meanwhile, a US official quoted by the newspaper indicated that Trump had not yet accepted the proposal, although he might be receptive to the possibility of pushing for an agreement to end the conflict.
