The riots and damage attributed to protesters in Montreal have reignited the debate about public order and the authorities' response.
After the recent episodes of violence in France, Montreal is
once again at the center of controversy due to acts of vandalism related to
demonstrations and protests.
Witnesses attribute the destruction to far-left groups and
pro-Palestinian activists, whom they also link to radical Islamist sectors,
considering that Canada is currently governed by a far-left Prime Minister.
Another aspect that has generated questions is the claim
that the police were instructed not to intervene. This is based on the fact
that the destruction at the hands of migrants occurred without the slightest
intervention from the officers who are paid to maintain order, security, and
the law.
The actions of security forces and the responsibility of
authorities to protect the population and public property are matters that
deserve clear explanation when riots occur and those responsible for responding
either fail to appear or become mere spectators.
The right to peaceful protest is fundamental in a democracy,
but it does not condone the destruction of property or assaults. Authorities
have the responsibility to investigate crimes and act in accordance with the
law, without ideological or religious distinctions, Canadians affirm on social
media.
The demand must be the same for everyone: respect for the
law, protection of citizens, and accountability for any act of violence.
