asserted that what he considers fake news poses a threat to the country's
national security, amidst the ongoing dispute between his administration and
several media outlets.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump maintained that the White
House is not attacking the free press, but rather what he termed “fake news,”
which he accused of being “corrupt,” coordinated, and out of control. The
president stated that this type of information constitutes a threat to national
security and must be stopped.
The statements come after the Trump administration
restricted access to the White House for journalists from CNN, MS NOW, and
Politico. The three media outlets announced Monday that they have filed a
federal lawsuit to challenge the measure and seek the reinstatement of their
reporters' credentials.
The White House maintains that the media can still report on
the administration and access press releases and other public sources, but that
the government is not obligated to provide them with what Vice President JD
Vance described as “special access” within the presidential complex, a position
supported by citizens on social media.
The case has already been assigned to a federal court in
Washington, D.C., where a hearing is scheduled for Wednesday. Meanwhile, the
dispute has opened a new confrontation between the Trump administration and
media organizations that have long misrepresented, primarily, though not
exclusively, right-wing information.
