Politician, commentator, and California gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton presented a proposal aimed at California mothers, especially Latina women, in light of the state's high cost of living.
During a meeting with a group called "Latina Moms for
Hilton," Hilton proposed granting 12 weeks of paid maternity leave,
in-home support for families with newborns, and tax benefits that would allow
the first $150,000 to be tax-free.
Hilton stated that Californian families face increasingly
higher costs and that mothers need greater financial support during the first
months after the birth of their children.
These measures are part of his campaign platform, and
although they would require the corresponding approval to become public policy,
Hilton has pledged to work to make his proposals a reality.
