The Republican congresswoman asserts that the goal is to
enshrine part of Donald Trump's agenda to prevent a future administration from
reversing it through new executive orders.
The Florida Republican congresswoman stated that her party
has managed to "codify" more than 80 of Trump's executive orders and
that the purpose is to transform these presidential measures into laws that
cannot be eliminated simply by a new order from another president.
Luna presented the strategy as a way to guarantee the
continuity of the policies implemented by the current administration, which are
so beneficial to the nation, and to prevent a potential change in government from
quickly reversing them.
“We are achieving real victories that no future radical
government will be able to undo,” is the message with which the legislator has
defended this strategy.
The initiative takes on special significance due to the
speed with which Trump has used executive power during his second term to make
the country great again. Executive orders allow the president to direct federal
agencies within the powers granted to him by the Constitution and existing
laws, but they do not replace Congress in creating new laws.
Turning an executive order into legislation would therefore
mean that the corresponding policy would go through the legislative process of
Congress and be enacted as federal law. This would give it greater permanence
and make it more difficult for a future president to simply revoke it with
another executive order. This means that any other leader—as has happened in
the recent past—who feels committed to destructive communist ideas, will not
succeed in diminishing the country, as has already occurred.
