The US Treasury Secretary warns that Washington will target
the international networks that allow the Tehran regime to finance itself and
promises a sustained economic offensive.
WASHINGTON—US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent issued a new
warning to countries and companies that maintain economic ties with Iran:
Washington has already identified the networks that aid the Iranian regime and
is prepared to act against them.
“We know who is helping the Iranians, they know who they
are, and this will end,” Bessent stated, defending the economic strategy
pursued by the Trump administration.
The statement comes within the framework of Operation
Economic Outcast, a campaign announced by the Treasury Department to
economically isolate Iran and cut off the international channels through which
it obtains revenue.
Bessent has described the operation as a large-scale
economic offensive. The goal is to identify and block the channels used by
Tehran to sell oil, move money, and acquire technology linked to its nuclear
and missile programs.
The Treasury also announced new sanctions against more than
60 entities, individuals, and vessels connected to oil revenue generation,
cyber operations, and the illicit acquisition of nuclear and missile
technology.
