BAKU—Hikmet Hajiyev, foreign policy advisor to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, highlighted Donald Trump's role in the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia and stated that a diplomatic solution with Iran remains possible.
In
an interview with Newsmax, Hajiyev noted that Trump's intervention helped
transform the political landscape of the South Caucasus and ushered in a new
era in US-Azerbaijan relations. He described the US president's leadership as a
decisive factor in the rapprochement between Baku and Yerevan.
Regarding
Iran, Hajiyev maintained that Azerbaijan believes there are still greater
possibilities for peacefully resolving outstanding differences. He also
expressed Baku's willingness to contribute to reducing regional tensions and
noted that the memorandum of understanding reached between the United States
and Iran could serve as a framework for future negotiations.
"We
believe there is a greater possibility of a peaceful resolution to all
outstanding issues," Hajiyev stated during the interview.
The
official further emphasized that regional stability and predictability are
priorities for Azerbaijan, given its geographic location between Russia and
Iran and its ties with various actors in the region.
